Classification

Different variety of fungi are known to cause the infection in various parts of the body and they are classified based on the area where the infection is spread out as follows:

• Tinea pedis (athlete's foot)  - affects feet
• Tinea unguium  - affects  fingernails and toenails
• Tinea cruris (jock itch)  - affects groin area
• Tinea corporis  - affects arms, legs, and trunk
• Tinea barbae -  affects facial hair
• Tinea manuum  - affects  hands and palm area
• Tinea faciei (face fungus)  - affects face
• Tinea capitis - affects scalp

Two other varieties are also named as:

• Tinea versicolor and
• Tinea nigra
